The Boston Rail Difference

For those I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting in the rail industry yet, I just wanted to take a few minutes to introduce Boston Rail to you, explain our capabilities and services, and highlight why an organisation should consider choosing Boston Rail for their resourcing needs.

Boston Rail are part of the Bostonair Group. We are based in Beverley, East Yorkshire and have been providing recruitment services since 1997. We operate across multi-sectors including Aviation, Wind Energy and Rail. We provide technical labour for service & maintenance (rolling stock), infrastructure (design/construction/testing) and production (rolling stock build) on a contract/contingent basis as well as offering permanent and executive search solutions, from Project Managers to MD level. Part of our Group’s philosophy is about giving individuals from the ex-forces and other sectors an opportunity to enter industry, and in our wind energy business, Boston Energy c 35% of all employees have an ex-forces background. In fact, the Director of Energy is an ex-Royal Marine!

Choosing Boston Rail as your recruitment and resourcing partner means you do not get a “one size fits all – fit and forget” approach. We are keen to understand your requirements in detail and have a forensic approach in sourcing candidates that meet and exceed your expectations. All candidates are rigorously interviewed before we even send CV’s across to our clients as we want to make sure they have the right skillsets, but above all the right attitudes and behavioural characteristics to succeed. Finally, we ensure all candidates meet our company values of ; Quality, Integrity, Reliability, Safety and Fairness which are the cornerstones of our business.

We also know that not every resourcing challenge is short-term or tactical in nature, so we have developed strategic training and development programmes to upskill both new entrants and existing rail talent across a number of segments; signalling, telecoms, OLE and rolling stock. By understanding your work bank and the fact that there will be general skill shortages in the rail sector with the huge infrastructure programmes such as CP6/CP7, HS2, Project Speed et al working with Boston Rail can help create new talent that will help meet this shortfall. By investing in the right people, and laying out a future for them really does create a lot of buy-in. With potential permanent opportunities available at the end of a training and development programme this keeps candidates interested and fully ‘invested’ in the process.

Boston Rail much prefer to work in partnership with our customers and suppliers because it’s all about delivering the best value, the best package at the right time for you. Everyone buying into the approach has excellent benefits in relation to communication, involvement and the overall final delivery which benefits the customer.

Finally, I’d also like to think a big difference in working with Boston Rail is our willingness to create bespoke solutions and think strategically about addressing resourcing challenges. Coming back to you with ideas around solving problems rather than waiting for requests to fill is something we feel is an integral part of what we offer customers.
